In the past few weeks, the Dodgers have struggled against the Mets and the Reds, two bad teams. But four times they've faced a team they were battling in the division or the Wild Card, and all four times they've come through. The latest example is a three-game sweep of the Rockies to turn a 0.5-game deficit into a 2.5-game lead in the NL West.

Jeff and Vince spent most of this episode answering your questions. A lot of great questions led to a lot of great discussion. We also looked at this date in 1959, a game in which Sandy Koufax was pulled because he couldn't throw a strike.

The Dodgers haven't been in a pennant race this late in the season in a long time. Vince Samperio and Jeff Snider are here to talk about what's going on. We talked about the crowded outfield, shuffling in the starting rotation, the team's offseason plans, and a ton of other things. We also went back in time to this date in 1963, when Phillies catcher Bob Oldis had two of his five career passed balls and the Dodgers beat the Phillies, 5-1.

Oh yeah, and we also discussed Jeff's amazing feat from slow-pitch softball that he had never seen anyone do before.

Since we last talked, the Dodgers took care of business against the Diamondbacks to jump into first place, then failed to take care of business agains the Mets and dropped down to second place. Jeff and Vince look at the upcoming weekend series against the first-place Rockies, along with several other topics.

We also did a Sporcle quiz: Can you name the Dodgers players with the most games started at each position from 1980 to 2012?

The Dodgers won five straight to pull within a game of the Diamondbacks, but they lost to the DBacks last night. Chris Taylor struck out four times and has looked terrible lately. Jeff and Vince discuss the future of Taylor, as well as several other topics. Be sure to send your questions and comments to us on Twitter at @ScullyAve (or @snidog or @VinceSamperio, if you like us as individuals too). We also looked back at a game on this date in 1999, with a starting pitcher who spent parts of four seasons with the Dodgers but neither of us remember.

Things are not looking great for the Dodgers right now, but Jeff and Vince aren't giving up on them. We answered listener questions about the team, what's going wrong, what could turn around, etc. We also did an "On This Date" from 1997 that included Ismael Valdez's second career stolen base. If that doesn't make you want to listen, I don't know what to tell you.

On today's episode, Jeff and Vince talked with Dodgers prospect and reigning Texas League Player of the Month Jacob Scavuzzo. We talked about growing up in SoCal and then getting drafted by the Dodgers, the highs and lows of pro baseball, and a ton of other topics.

Fair warning: There are some audio issues. But the content underneath is great, and it's worth your time to take a listen.

It's been a couple weeks, and since then, all the Dodgers did was trade for two of the best offensive players available at the trade deadline. Jeff and Vince catch up on all that has happened, plus some talk about rosters, Yasmani Grandal's defense, and other things.

The Orioles are likely to trade Manny Machado in the next day or two, and depending on who you believe, the Dodgers might be the frontrunners to get him. Jeff and Vince talk about that and a bunch of other things in this episode.

We also did a Sporcle quiz: Can you name the Dodger hitters with at least 20 home runs in a season?

Near the end of this episode, word broke that Chase Utley will be holding a press conference this afternoon. Jeff and Vince, assuming that the press conference will be to announce his retirement, spent the last few minutes talking about Utley and his impact on the Dodgers.

Before that, we had a ton of really good mailbag questions, and we addressed issues about second base, the bullpen, potential trade partners, Manny Machado, and other stuff.

And we did two "On This Date" segments, including finding a game in which Ozzie Smith made two errors.

After a terrible start to his Sporcle quiz career, Vince has now beat Jeff two in a row, including today's quiz: Can you name the foreign-born player with the highest career WAR for each position for each MLB franchise?

Let us know how you did on the quiz!

Oh yeah, and we also talked a lot about the Dodgers, including some great mailbag questions from our listeners (that's you!). Thanks for listening!

Let's face it, recording (and listening to) a Dodgers podcast is more fun with the Dodgers are playing well. After a week off, Jeff and Vince are back to talk about the resurgent Dodgers, and it's a fun one. Great mailbag questions, a fun Sporcle quiz, and good times for all.

Today's quiz: Can you name the Dodgers players who have received MVP votes since 1990?

Jeff and Vince talk about all the goings on in the Dodgers universe, including the upcoming return of Clayton Kershaw, the emergence of Ross Stripling, the continued excellent play of Matt Kemp, the promotion of Dennis Santana, and about a hundred other topics. We also did an "On This Date" that was pretty uneventful, except that it introduced us to a guy named Blas Minor, who apparently spent six years in the big leagues and is now a firefighter in an Arizona town neighboring the town where Cody Bellinger's dad is a firefighter. And his name is Blas.

It's our 99th episode, which we call Episode 100! It's also the 10th anniversary of Clayton Kershaw's debut. In this episode, Jeff and Vince talk about the Dodgers' recent hot streak, the details of Kershaw's first game, and a lot of other topics.

We also did a Sporcle quiz: Can you name the hitters that tallied 100 or more RBIs for (at least) three different teams?

Jeff and Vince recorded this podcast while watching the Dodgers play the Marlins on Thursday morning. During the Sporcle quiz, they watched the Dodgers offense break out with the help of two doubles from Justin Turned to drive in a total of five runs. The game is still going right now, but things are looking good. We briefly discussed recording an episode EVERY game, but Jeff decided that wasn't the best thing for his marriage.

Take the Sporcle quiz with us: Can you name the active MLB home run leader for each season?

Also, be sure to answer the question contained in this episode using the hashtag #devilwentdowntododgers. You'll have to listen to know what the question is.
